COLONIC IRRIGATION NORTH WALES

One method of helping to treat congestion in the bowel/colon is Colonic Irrigation also known as Colon Hydrotherapy.  Colonic Irrigation can help you feel good inside and out through a simple cleansing process. Your sense of well being can often improve and you may feel lighter and more energetic.  Natural peristalsis, tone and regularity can be helped to be restored and any bloating or wind may be settled through this gentle and sterile technique.

BOWEL PROBLEMS

There is a significant increase in the number of people who are suffering from constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and other diseases of the colon/bowel area.

Many of us are not aware of the many different ways in which congestion in this region can sometimes trigger other ailments such as toxic headaches, bloatedness, cramps, lethargy, haemorrhoids, skin problems, eczema, psoriasis, candida, diarrhoea and low mood. By cleansing the colon, Colon Hydrotherapy can offer some relief from a variety of disturbances, including those mentioned above.

THE COLON HAS THREE MAIN FUNCTIONS:

  • The final digestion of food
  • The elimination of digestive residue of food we have eaten
  • The discharge of toxins and waste from the body

We can usually experience better health and well being when the colon is clean and functioning normally.  When the colon is congested with stagnant wastes toxicity can often build up in our systems. We should experience one or two easy bowel movements per day, which should feel complete, be soft in consistency and easy to pass.  When eliminating one should not have to force, strain or experience any pain whatsoever.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE COLONIC IRRIGATION TREATMENT?

Colonic Irrigation or Colon Hydrotherapy is a gentle process, where your modesty is preserved at all times and you are covered with a large towel or gown throughout the treatment.  A small disposable speculum is inserted into the rectum, which does not hurt.

Two tubes are attached to the outside of the speculum, one allows warm filtered water to gently flow into the colon, in small amounts at a time.  The other tube takes waste away into the waste pipe so that there is no smell, leakage or exposure.

The water helps to gently break down and dislodge faecal matter and helps to flush out the waste. Sometimes the waste is hard or well lodged in the colon and may take more than one colonic to sufficiently soften and loosen it.  The number of treatments will always vary with the individual and his/her condition.

WHEN IS A COLONIC IRRIGATION TREATMENT NOT ADVISED?

If a patient has severe cardiac disease, very high blood pressure, aneurysm, severe anaemia, gastro-intestinal perforation or haemorrhage, severe haemorrhoids, cirrhosis, carcinoma of the colon or rectum, recent colon or rectal surgery, renal insufficiency or a severe prostate condition, abdominal surgery within the past 6 months or if pregnant Colon Hydrotherapy is not advised.

Conditions such as active infections, active inflammations like diverticulitis, crohns disease, ulcerative colitis, a painful bleeding fissure or painful bleeding haemorrhoids mean treatment cannot be comfortably carried out until they are healed or in remission.

IS COLONIC IRRIGATION SAFE?

Yes, we use single use disposable specula and kits and all equipment is fully sterilized. The water is pre filtered and the pressure is low. Unlike the regular use of forms of laxatives which may sometimes be habit forming, Colon Hydrotherapy is not habit forming and can often help to improve the muscle tone of the colon.

HOW MANY COLONIC IRRIGATION TREATMENTS ARE NECESSARY?

This depends on the individual and advice will be given after your first treatment.  It is usually advisable to have more than one treatment spread over a period of time.  After which maintenance treatments may be recommended.

HOW LONG DOES A COLONIC IRRIGATION TAKE?

In all the actual treatment takes 30-40 minutes on the couch, allow one hour for your first appointment as this will include a consultation followed by the treatment. You will then be given dietary and aftercare advice.

WILL COLONIC IRRIGATION DAMAGE THE NORMAL INTESTINAL FLORA?

Some bacteria will be expelled but the removal of old and backlogged waste can help to create a cleared environment and may often allow a better chance of the multiplication of the good bacteria. The practitioner will sometimes also recommend the taking of probiotic capsules to replenish the bowel flora and give dietary advice.
